ROI Calculator: Return on Investment and Annualised Return

What is it?

The ROI Calculator shows the Gain, the total Return on investment and the Yearly return (annualised).

Who is it for?

Investors comparing returns, business owners judging a purchase or campaign, and students learning finance.

How to use it

Enter the Amount invested, the Amount returned (or current value), and Over how many years. The answer appears as you type; there is no Calculate button. Tap Copy result to copy it, or Share on WhatsApp to send it.

Why annualised matters

A 50% return sounds great, but over 10 years it is only about 4.1% a year, less than an FD. Always compare yearly returns. The annualised figure is the same as CAGR.

Include all costs and income

  • Add costs into the amount invested: brokerage, stamp duty, repairs, fees.
  • Add income received into the amount returned: rent, dividends, interest.
  • Look at returns after tax to compare fairly.

Limits

ROI assumes one investment at the start and one return at the end. If you added money several times (like SIPs or business top-ups), use the XIRR Calculator. For marketing, ROI is (revenue from the campaign − cost) ÷ cost.

Worked example

₹2,00,000 invested returns ₹2,90,000 after 3 years: gain ₹90,000, ROI 45%, about 13.2% a year.

Errors and how to fix them
