What is it?
The Dog and Cat Age Calculator converts your pet’s age into Age in human years and shows its Life stage.
Who is it for?
Pet owners curious about their pet’s age, and people choosing food and vet care for each life stage.
How to use it
Choose the Pet: Dog: small (under 10 kg), Dog: medium (10–25 kg), Dog: large (over 25 kg) or Cat, and enter the Pet’s age. The answer appears as you type; there is no Calculate button. Tap Copy result to copy it, or Share on WhatsApp to send it.
Why not “× 7”?
Pets grow up fast at first, then age more slowly. The first year counts as about 15 human years and the second as 9; after that small dogs and cats age about 4 years a year, large dogs up to 6 or 7. That’s why large breeds like German Shepherds and Labradors have shorter lives than small breeds.
Using it
- Senior pets (about 7+ for dogs and 10+ for cats) benefit from vet check-ups twice a year.
- Food labelled for puppies, adults or seniors matches these stages.
- For mixed breeds, choose the size by adult weight.
Worked example
A 5-year-old Labrador (large) is about 15 + 9 + 3 × 6 ≈ 42 human years; a 5-year-old cat is about 36.
Errors and how to fix them
- “Enter the age (more than 0)”: type your pet’s age in years. For a puppy or kitten, use a decimal, such as 0.5 for six months.
- The result differs from another website: there is no single official formula. This tool counts the first year as about 15 human years and the second as 9, then a little more each year for bigger dogs, so choose the right Pet size.
