Edit PDF Metadata: Change or Remove Title, Author and Dates

What is it?

Edit PDF Metadata shows the hidden details stored inside a PDF and lets you change or remove them. These include the title, author, subject, keywords, the program that made it, and when it was created and last changed.

Who is it for?

Job seekers sending CVs, freelancers delivering work, website owners uploading PDFs that appear in Google, and anyone who doesn’t want their computer’s user name or old template titles inside shared files.

How to use it

  1. Choose a PDF. Its details appear in the boxes.
  2. Edit any field, or tap Remove all info to clear them.
  3. Tap Save changes and download the new copy.

Why it matters

  • Browsers and Google show the Title field, often left over from a template like “Invoice_Template_v3”. A clear title looks professional and helps PDFs rank.
  • Author often holds the computer’s user name, sometimes a full name you don’t want shared.

Good titles for PDFs on websites

Use the document’s real name, like “Admission Form 2026 – Sharma Public School”, so search results and browser tabs make sense. Remove all info only changes these details; the page content isn’t touched.

The PDF is opened and changed inside your browser; it is never uploaded. Close the page and it is gone.

Errors and how to fix them

  • “This PDF is password-protected. Remove the password first”: open it once with Remove PDF Password (you need the password), then use the unlocked copy here.
  • Browser tab still shows the old title: you’re opening the original file; open the newly saved copy.
  • Author comes back after editing in Word: Word writes its own details when you export again; edit the metadata as the last step.
