What is it?
Days, Months and Seasons teaches young children the calendar. It has three parts, Days, Months and Seasons, in English and Hindi, and ends with a short quiz.
Who is it for?
Children of 4 to 8 learning the days and months, parents teaching Hindi names, and teachers covering calendars and seasons in EVS or geography.
How to use it
- Open Days: today is marked, with “· yesterday” and “· tomorrow”. Press 🔊 Say the days to hear them in order.
- Open Months: each month shows its days; February shows 29 “because it is a leap year” when it is.
- Open Seasons and choose North of the equator or South of the equator; India’s ritus are listed with their rough dates.
- Play the Quiz: “Which day comes after …?”, “How many days are there in …?”, “Which month comes after …?”
India’s six seasons (ritus)
Vasant (spring, about mid-March to mid-May), Grishma (summer, mid-May to mid-July), Varsha (monsoon, mid-July to mid-September), Sharad (autumn, mid-September to mid-November), Hemant (pre-winter) and Shishir (winter). The dates follow the Hindu calendar, so they move a little each year. Near the equator many places just have a wet and a dry season.
Tips
- Sing the days each morning and ask “what day was yesterday?”
- Seasons are opposite in Australia: December is summer there.
- A year is a leap year if it divides by 4, except century years that don’t divide by 400.
Errors and how to fix them
- No sound when I tap: the words are read by your device’s own voice. Turn the volume up and silent mode off, and check that a text-to-speech voice is installed (Android: Settings › Accessibility › Text-to-speech; iPhone: Settings › Accessibility › Spoken Content; Windows: Settings › Time & language › Speech). Hindi words need a Hindi voice; without one the tool says them in English or stays quiet.
- “Not quite: the answer is shown in green”: only the first tap counts. Look at the green answer, say it aloud together, and the next question comes on its own. At the end the tool shows the score with stars (🌱 to ⭐⭐⭐).
- Today is wrong: the tool uses your device’s date and time; correct the clock in your device settings.
