CSV & Excel Viewer: Open, Sort and Search Spreadsheets Without Excel

What is it?

The CSV & Excel Viewer opens a spreadsheet on any phone or computer without Excel or an account. CSV files separated by commas, semicolons, tabs or pipes are detected automatically, and Excel or LibreOffice files open sheet by sheet. Tap a column to sort it, search every column at once, see the sum, average, minimum and maximum of number columns, and download the rows you filtered as a new CSV.

Who is it for?

Anyone who received a spreadsheet on their phone, shop owners checking stock lists, teachers with marks sheets, and office staff on computers without Office.

How to use it

  1. Tap Open a CSV or Excel file or drag the file onto it (.csv, .tsv, .txt, .xlsx, .xlsm, .xls, .xlsb, .ods).
  2. For a workbook, pick the Sheet. Untick First row is the column names if your file has no header row.
  3. Tap a column name to sort; type in Search to filter rows. Show … more rows loads the next batch.
  4. Press Download as CSV to save the visible rows.

Worked example

Tap Try a sample to load a shopping list (“✓ Sample shopping list loaded. Tap a column name to sort.”). Tap the price column to sort it, search “rice” to filter, and the column summary shows the total. Numbers with ₹, $, commas or % are still sorted and added up as numbers.

Are my files uploaded?

No. The file is opened and processed inside your browser, on your own phone or computer. The first time, the tool downloads a free helper program it needs (from a public download server); your files themselves are never sent to us or anyone else.

Errors and how to fix them

  • Could not read this spreadsheet: …: the file is damaged, password-protected or not really a spreadsheet. Open it in Excel or Google Sheets and save it again.
  • Everything is in one column: the separator was unusual. Check the status line, which says comma-, semicolon-, tab- or pipe-separated.
  • Accented letters or ₹ look wrong in Excel later: use Download as CSV; it adds a marker that tells Excel the file is UTF-8.
  • Phone is slow with a huge file: open it on a computer; rows are shown in batches to keep it fast.
