Car Insurance Calculator: IDV, No-Claim Bonus and Premium

What is it?

The Car Insurance Calculator gives a rough idea of a car’s yearly insurance premium in India. It shows the insured value (IDV), the own-damage part after your no-claim bonus, the third-party part, GST and the estimated total.

Who is it for?

Car owners renewing insurance, new car buyers and people comparing quotes.

How to use it

  1. Enter the Ex-showroom price when new and the Car’s age.
  2. Choose the Engine size (up to 1,000 cc, 1,000–1,500 cc, above 1,500 cc).
  3. Choose your No-claim bonus, from none to 50% for 5+ claim-free years.
  4. Enter the Own-damage rate from your quote (usually 1.5%–3.5% depending on city, car and insurer) and whether you need Personal accident cover for the owner.

IDV

IDV is the maximum the insurer pays if the car is stolen or a total loss. It falls with age (for example 5% under 6 months, 50% at 4–5 years). A higher IDV means a higher premium but a better payout; don’t lower it just to save a little.

Keep your NCB

  • The NCB belongs to you, not the car: transfer it when you sell and buy a new car.
  • A small claim can lose the NCB worth more than the claim; compare before claiming.
  • Renew before expiry; NCB is lost if the policy lapses for more than 90 days.

Useful add-ons

Zero depreciation for newer cars, engine protection in flood-prone cities, and roadside assistance.

This is an estimate to help you plan, not financial or tax advice. Read the scheme or policy documents, and ask a qualified adviser for big decisions.

Errors and how to fix them

  • Premium very different from quote: enter the own-damage rate from your quote.
