Star sign
Western zodiac signs follow fixed date ranges (Aries 21 March–19 April and so on). Indian (Vedic) astrology uses a different system, so your rashi is often the sign before your Western one.
Chinese zodiac
The Chinese zodiac year starts at the Lunar New Year (late January or February), so people born in January may belong to the previous animal.
