What is it?
The Average Calculator finds the average of a list of numbers. Along with the mean it shows the median, mode, range, sum, count, smallest and largest number, and the standard deviation.
Who is it for?
Students, teachers averaging marks, shopkeepers averaging daily sales, and anyone summarising a list of numbers.
How to use it
Paste or type Numbers (spaces, commas or new lines). A column copied from Excel works. The answer appears as you type; there is no Calculate button. Tap Copy result to copy it, or Share on WhatsApp to send it.
Mean or median?
- Mean: add all and divide by the count. Good when values are similar.
- Median: the middle value. Better when a few values are extreme, such as salaries or house prices, where one very large number pulls the mean up.
- Mode: the most common value; useful for sizes or ratings.
Standard deviation
- Shows how spread out the numbers are. Small means most values are close to the mean.
- Use sample when your numbers are a sample of a bigger group (most surveys and experiments); population when you have every value.
Watch out
Commas separate numbers, so don’t type thousands separators: 1,00,000 is read as three numbers (1, 0 and 0). Type 100000 instead. Use a dot for decimals (2.5), not a comma.
Errors and how to fix them
- “Type some numbers”: the box is empty or has no numbers.
- Count looks wrong: commas split numbers; don’t use thousands separators.
