What is it?
What Is My User Agent shows your browser’s user-agent string, its name and version, operating system and screen size, and can read any other user-agent string.
Who is it for?
Support teams asking users for browser details, developers debugging device-specific bugs, and analysts reading server logs.
How to use it
- Your own details appear at once. Tap Copy to send them to a support team.
- To read another one, use Check another user agent: paste a user-agent string from a log file or analytics. Try a sample shows an example.
Why user agents look strange
Almost every browser starts with “Mozilla/5.0” and mentions Safari and Chrome, for historical compatibility. The real browser is found from the later parts, like Edg/ for Edge or SamsungBrowser/.
Limits
- Browsers now reduce the detail they share (for example, Chrome freezes some version and OS numbers), so exact versions may be approximate.
- User agents can be changed or faked, so don’t rely on them for security.
- Bots like Googlebot identify themselves in the user agent; verify real Googlebot by reverse DNS, not the string alone.
When support asks for it
Copy the result into your message: it tells them your browser, version and device, which helps fix problems faster.
Examples
- A string containing
Android 14andChrome/1xxis Chrome on an Android phone. iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 17_…withSafariis Safari on an iPhone (CriOS means Chrome on iPhone).Googlebotin the string means Google’s crawler;facebookexternalhitis Facebook making a link preview.
Why it’s useful
If a page breaks only for some visitors, comparing their user agents in your analytics often reveals one browser or old phone model.
