What is it?
The Tally Counter counts anything with big + and − buttons, like a handheld clicker. Counts are saved on this device.
Who is it for?
Event volunteers counting entries, surveyors, fitness lovers counting reps or laps, knitters, and people counting japa or votes.
How to use it
- Tap + to count, − to undo a mistake. Set the Step to count in 2s, 5s or 10s.
- Tap + Add counter for several counts at once (for example, men, women and children at an event). Name each one. Remove deletes a counter.
- Reset sets a counter back to zero.
Ideas
- People entering an event or a shop; vehicles in a traffic survey.
- Laps, push-ups, skipping rounds; knitting rows and stitches.
- Votes in a show of hands; mala or jaap counts.
Good to know
- Counts are kept in this browser, so they survive closing the page, but not clearing browsing data or switching phones.
- Keep the screen on while counting: in the phone’s display settings, increase the screen timeout.
Example: counting at an event gate
- Tap + Add counter twice and name them “Adults” and “Children”.
- Tap + on the right one as each person enters.
- At the end, add the two totals; take a screenshot as a record.
Example: knitting or exercise
Set Step to the number you do per round (for example 10 stitches or 2 laps), so one tap adds the whole round.
Tips
- Big buttons are easy to tap without looking, but double taps can count twice; tap − to correct.
- Counts stay after closing the page, so a long count (a mala, a survey day) isn’t lost if your phone locks.
- Before starting a new count, tap Reset so yesterday’s number doesn’t carry over.
- Two people counting the same thing on two phones and comparing totals catches mistakes.

Errors and how to fix them
- Counts reset by themselves: browser data was cleared, or you’re in a private window.
- Double counts: fast double taps count twice; tap − to correct.
