What is it?
The Percentage Change Calculator shows by what percent a value went up or down. Enter the old value and the new value to see the change in percent, the difference, and the new value as a percent of the old one.
Who is it for?
Students, business owners comparing sales, investors, and anyone comparing an old and a new value.
How to use it
- Type the Old value, for example last year’s price.
- Type the New value.
- Read the change in percent and the Difference. It shows Increase or Decrease.
The answer appears as you type; there is no Calculate button. Tap Copy result to copy it, or Share on WhatsApp to send it.
Change or difference?
- Percentage change: when there’s a before and after. Price from ₹80 to ₹100 = +25%.
- Percentage difference: when comparing two values with no “original”, like two shops’ prices. It divides by their average, so the answer is the same in both directions.
Watch out
- Up 25% then down 25% doesn’t return to the start: 80 → 100 → 75.
- A change from 0 has no percentage (you can’t divide by zero).
- From 10% to 12% is a 2 percentage-point rise, but a 20% increase. News reports often mix these up.
Uses
Price rises, salary hikes, sales growth, marks improvement, weight loss and share price moves.
Worked example
Sales rose from ₹40,000 to ₹46,000: change +15%; new is 115% of old. If they fall back to ₹40,000 next month, that’s a 13% fall, not 15%, because the starting value is now bigger.
Errors and how to fix them
- “The old value cannot be 0”: change from zero has no percentage.
