Paste as Plain Text: Remove Formatting From Copied Text

What is it?

Paste as Plain Text removes the formatting from text you copied from Word, web pages, PDFs or emails. It strips fonts and colours, and can also tidy spaces, blank lines, hidden characters, curly quotes, bullets and lines broken in the middle.

Who is it for?

Office staff, bloggers pasting into Blogger or WordPress, students, and anyone whose pasted text brings strange fonts along.

How to use it

  1. Paste into the box.
  2. Tick the clean-ups you need.
  3. Copy the clean text and paste it where you need it.

Keyboard shortcut

Many apps paste without formatting with Ctrl + Shift + V. This tool also removes hidden characters and fixes PDF line breaks, which shortcuts don’t.

Errors and how to fix them

  • The browser did not allow reading the clipboard. Press Ctrl+V (or long-press → Paste) in the box instead.
  • Paragraphs merged: untick Join broken lines for text that already has proper paragraphs.

Questions people ask

  • Is my text uploaded? No, it’s cleaned in your browser.
  • Can it fix text copied from WhatsApp? Yes: it removes formatting symbols’ effects and odd spaces, though *stars* stay as text.

Example

Text copied from a PDF with a line break every 70 characters: tick Join broken lines and Fix double spaces to get clean paragraphs for an email.
