NPS Calculator: Corpus at 60, Lump Sum and Monthly Pension

What is it?

The NPS Calculator estimates your Total at 60, the Lump sum you can take (tax-free) and the Monthly pension from the National Pension System.

Who is it for?

Salaried and self-employed people planning retirement with NPS, and government employees.

How to use it

Enter Your age now, the Monthly contribution, the Expected return, the Share used to buy a pension (annuity) (at least 40%) and the Annuity rate. The answer appears as you type; there is no Calculate button. Tap Copy result to copy it, or Share on WhatsApp to send it.

How NPS works

NPS returns depend on markets. Up to 60% can be taken tax-free at 60; the rest buys a pension (annuity), which is taxable. You choose how much goes into equity (E), corporate bonds (C) and government bonds (G), or let it adjust with age (auto choice).

Assumptions

  • Expected return: 8–10% a year is a reasonable long-term range for a mix with equity; lower for mostly bonds.
  • Annuity rates are often 6–7%; check current quotes from annuity providers.
  • The contribution is kept the same; raising it with your salary gives more.

Tax benefits

Under the old regime, NPS gets up to ₹1.5 lakh under 80C plus an extra ₹50,000 under 80CCD(1B). Employer contributions under 80CCD(2) are allowed in both regimes, within limits. Rules change; check the current year.

This is an estimate to help you plan, not financial or tax advice. Read the scheme or policy documents, and ask a qualified adviser for big decisions.

Errors and how to fix them

  • “NPS contributions run until 60”: your age must be under 60.
  • “At least 40% must buy an annuity”
