What is it?
Learn the ABC is a bright, simple way for young children to learn the English alphabet. Each letter from A to Z has a big capital and small letter, a picture word, and a voice that reads it aloud; a listening quiz checks what they’ve learned.
Who is it for?
Parents of toddlers and pre-schoolers (about 2–5 years), nursery and KG teachers, and older children learning English as a new language.
How to use it
- Tap a letter to see its picture word and hear it (🔊 Hear it).
- Tap ▶ Play all to hear A to Z in order.
- Try the quiz: listen (Hear again repeats), tap the letter you hear, then Play again for a new round.
Teaching tips
Teach the letter sound along with its name (“A says /a/ as in apple”); the Phonics tool helps with sounds. Point to the same letters on cereal boxes, signs and books during the day.
For parents and teachers
Short sessions work best: 5–10 minutes a day, then something active. Sit with young children, say the answers aloud together, and praise effort, not just right answers. Everything runs on the device with no sign-up, no chat and no data collected about your child.
Errors and how to fix them
- No sound when tapping 🔊: turn up the volume, switch off silent mode (on iPhone, the side switch), and check the browser tab isn’t muted. Sounds use your device’s built-in voices.
- Voice sounds American or British: it uses your device’s English voice; change the default voice in the device’s text-to-speech settings.
- Child taps too fast: wait for the sound to finish; each tap starts the sound again.
