Force, Work and Power Calculator: Newtons, Joules and Watts

What is it?

The Force, Work & Power Calculator works out force, work done and power from simple values like mass and distance. It shows force in newtons and kilogram-force, and the weight of the mass on Earth.

Who is it for?

Physics students, engineers and anyone estimating forces, work or power for lifting and moving.

How to use it

Enter the Mass, Acceleration, Distance moved, the Angle between force and movement (0° if pushing straight along) and the Time taken. The answer appears as you type; there is no Calculate button. Tap Copy result to copy it, or Share on WhatsApp to send it.

The formulas

Newton’s second law F = m × a; work W = F × d × cos θ; power P = W ÷ t.

  • At 90° (carrying a bag level across a room), no work is done on the bag in the physics sense.
  • Lifting something at a steady speed needs a force equal to its weight: use a = 9.81 m/s².

Units

  • 1 N lifts about 102 g. 1 kgf (kilogram-force) = 9.81 N.
  • 1 joule = 1 N × 1 m. 1 watt = 1 joule per second. 746 W = 1 horsepower.

Example: lifting a 50 kg sack 2 m onto a truck in 4 s is 981 J of work and about 245 W of power.

Errors and how to fix them

  • Zero power: time taken is empty.
