What is it?
The Exponent Calculator works out a Base raised to an Exponent (power), and shows big or tiny results in Scientific notation.
Who is it for?
Students, scientists working with large or tiny numbers, and anyone learning powers.
How to use it
- Enter the Base and the Exponent (power).
- Read the result and scientific notation.
The answer appears as you type; there is no Calculate button. Tap Copy result to copy it, or Share on WhatsApp to send it.
Rules worth knowing
- Anything to the power 0 is 1: 7⁰ = 1.
- Negative powers are fractions: 2⁻³ = 1/8 = 0.125.
- Fractional powers are roots: 27^(1/3) = 3; 16^(3/4) = 8.
- Multiply powers of the same base by adding: 2³ × 2⁴ = 2⁷.
Scientific notation
6.02e23 means 6.02 × 10²³. Very large results are shown this way because they have too many digits.
No real answer
A negative base with a fractional power, like (−8)^0.5, has no real result. (−8)^(1/3) = −2 mathematically, but many calculators, including this one, may not give it; use the Square Root Calculator’s nth root for odd roots of negatives.
Compound interest and population growth are powers too; see the Compound Interest Calculator.
Errors and how to fix them
- Shows Infinity: the result is too big for normal numbers; use the Big Number Calculator for whole-number powers.
