What is it?
Compress Video rebuilds a video as an efficient MP4 so the file is much smaller. Choose a quality level, or type the size you need in MB, and pick a lower resolution if it will be watched on phones.
Who is it for?
People sending long videos on WhatsApp or email, job and college applicants with video-upload limits, teachers sharing class recordings, and anyone whose phone storage is full of large videos.
How to use it
- Choose a video.
- Pick By quality – Light (looks the same), Balanced or Strong (smallest) – or To a size and type the Target size (MB).
- Pick the Resolution (Keep the size, 1080p (Full HD), 720p or 480p) and choose whether to Keep the sound.
- Tap Compress video, wait for Compressing…, and download.
Settings for common limits
- WhatsApp: 720p and Balanced, or To a size with 16 MB (the tool notes “WhatsApp: 16 MB for normal videos; email: about 20 MB”).
- Email: To a size, 20 MB.
- Maximum saving: 480p and Strong. Lowering resolution saves far more than strong compression at full size.
Why does the first job take longer?
The tool uses a video engine (ffmpeg, the free engine inside many video apps) that runs in your browser. The engine is about 31 MB and downloads only the first time you start a job; after that it starts in a second or two. All the work then happens on your device, so a phone is slower than a computer for long or HD videos. Keep the tab open and the screen on until it finishes.
Is my file uploaded?
No. The file is opened and changed inside your browser, on your own phone or computer. Nothing is sent to us, and closing the page clears it.
Errors and how to fix them
- “Done, but the result is not smaller: this video is already well compressed”: choose a lower resolution or Strong.
- Loading the video engine (31 MB, only the first time)… takes long: the engine downloads once, then your browser keeps it. Use Wi-Fi the first time.
- The video engine could not start …: the download was interrupted or blocked. Check your connection, turn off data saver or an aggressive ad blocker for this page, and try again.
- “This file could not be read. It may be damaged, or a format we cannot open”: play the file in your phone’s gallery first. If it plays, convert it with Video Converter and try again; if it doesn’t, the file itself is damaged.
- “This file is too big for your browser. Try a shorter or smaller file, or a computer with more memory”: the browser ran out of memory. Close other tabs, use a computer, or cut the video into parts with Trim Video.
- “This file is over 1.5 GB: too big to process inside a browser”: trim or compress it on a computer first.
- Takes a long time: compressing redraws every frame. A minute of HD can take several minutes on a phone; a computer is faster.
