Stickers are big pictures you send instead of text, like a smiling face or a "Good morning" card. Tap the sticker button in the typing box, pick one, and it is sent at once. You can also save stickers friends send and make your own from photos.
Send a sticker
- Android: in a chat, tap the smiley (emoji) icon in the typing box, then tap the Stickers tab at the bottom. Tap any sticker to send it.
- iPhone: tap the sticker icon (a square with a folded corner) inside the typing box, then tap a sticker.
- WhatsApp Web / computer: click the smiley, then the Stickers tab.
A sticker is sent the moment you tap it. If you sent the wrong one, press and hold it and delete it for everyone soon after (see delete for everyone).
Get more sticker packs
- Open the sticker tray as above.
- Tap + (add) to open the sticker store.
- Tap the download arrow next to a pack you like. It appears in your tray.
Save a sticker someone sent you
Tap the sticker in the chat. A window opens; tap Add to favourites (the star). It now sits in the star section of your tray. If it belongs to a pack, you may also see a button to view or add the whole pack.
Make your own sticker
- Open the sticker tray and tap Create (or Create sticker).
- Choose a photo from your gallery.
- WhatsApp usually cuts out the person or object for you. You can add text, small drawings or other stickers on top.
- Tap Send. The new sticker is also kept in your tray.
In some countries and languages you may also see Use AI when creating a sticker: you type a description and WhatsApp's AI draws a few to choose from. This is not available everywhere; if you don't see it, it is not on for your account yet.
Avatar stickers
If you made a cartoon avatar of yourself earlier, your avatar stickers still show in the tray and you can keep sending them. WhatsApp's help centre says new avatars can no longer be created, so if you never made one, you will not find an option for it.
If it doesn't work
- No Create option: update WhatsApp; older versions only send ready-made packs.
- Stickers show as grey boxes: check your internet; stickers download when you open them.
- Too many packs: in the sticker store, open My stickers and remove packs you don't use.
Safety tip
Only add stickers from inside WhatsApp. "Sticker maker" or "free sticker pack" apps and APK files shared in groups can carry adverts or malware. And stickers made from someone else's photo can hurt or embarrass them: ask before you turn a friend's picture into a sticker.
This is GroupChatOn’s own easy guide. We are not WhatsApp and are not linked with WhatsApp or Meta. WhatsApp sometimes changes its menus: if a button looks different on your phone, update WhatsApp from the Play Store or App Store.
