You can use the same WhatsApp account on a computer or tablet by linking it to your phone. Open web.whatsapp.com (or the WhatsApp desktop app), then scan the QR code from your phone's Linked devices screen.
Step 1: open WhatsApp on the computer
Open web.whatsapp.com in Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari, or install the WhatsApp app for Windows or Mac from its official store. A QR code (a square of black dots) appears.
Step 2: link from your phone
Android
- Open WhatsApp and tap ⋮ › Linked devices.
- Tap Link a device and unlock with your fingerprint or screen lock if asked.
- Point the phone camera at the QR code on the computer.
iPhone
- Open WhatsApp and tap Settings › Linked Devices.
- Tap Link a Device and confirm with Face ID or your passcode.
- Scan the QR code on the computer.
Your chats appear on the computer within a moment. If the camera won't scan, choose Link with phone number instead on the computer and type the 8-character code it shows into your phone.
How it works
- You can link up to 4 devices at once, and they keep working even if the phone has no internet for a while.
- If you don't use your phone's WhatsApp for about 14 days, linked devices are logged out.
- Older chats may take time to appear on the computer, and some very old messages may not show.
Log out a device
- On the phone: go to Linked devices, tap the device › Log out.
- On the computer: click the menu (⋮ or ☰) › Log out.
If it doesn't work
- QR code won't scan: clean the camera, make the browser window bigger, or reload the page to get a fresh code.
- Stuck on loading: check internet on both devices, update the browser and WhatsApp, and try another browser.
- Messages not syncing: open WhatsApp on the phone once; then log out and link again.
Safety tips
- Check Linked devices every few weeks. If you see a computer you don't know, Log out at once: someone may be reading your chats.
- Never scan a QR code someone else sends you "to verify your account" or "to join a group". Scanning a WhatsApp Web QR code gives them your chats.
- On an office or cyber-café computer, always log out when done.
This is GroupChatOn’s own easy guide. We are not WhatsApp and are not linked with WhatsApp or Meta. WhatsApp sometimes changes its menus: if a button looks different on your phone, update WhatsApp from the Play Store or App Store.
